Boys U15 Elite Make History at Southern Regionals
A big congratulations to the Key Biscayne SC Boys U15 Elite team for making us proud last Tuesday by winning the USYS Southern Regionals in Dallas, TX. This talented bunch, missing half of the team roster, relied on players stepping up from the B team, and traveled with 14 players. One player, Carlos Lara, battling the flu, could barely play during the Group Phase. It was a masterful display of teamwork. With huge hearts, a commitment to each other, and the desire to play their beautiful possession game, they overcame every obstacle and knocked down several giants to win the first USYS Southern Regionals for the club. This is the first regional championship for the KBSC.
They accomplished this historical event by defeating the #1-ranked Texas state team. They then dominated top teams from Tennessee and Missouri. In the semifinals, it was a dramatic overtime win over Miami rival, Atletico de Madrid Doral, tying the game in the final minute of regulation, before converting two more goals for the 4:2 win. The final was a nail-biter against the North Carolina State Cup Champion, Carolina Velocity FC. A slick pass cutting the back line led to the only goal, winning 1:0. All the opponents were loaded up with MLS Next academy players, but KBSC brought their homegrown boys and never gave up. Well done, lads!!!
Now, on to USYS Nationals in Orlando, FL (July 20-27). With everyone back and healthy, we wish them the very best. Go Blue!
